areas are incident free as well. clarksburg to german town all of your lanes are open. a few brake lights now. we'll take a live look at route 109. the pace is good into german town. i'll be back with more traffic. we get to a story happening today. the suspected aurora, colorado gunman is back in court. james holmes will be formally arraigned and officially charged. he was first in court one week ago, holmes is accused of killing 12 people inside a movie theater are july 20th. he is facing more than 100 charges. prosecutors will be setting up their case to give him the death penalty. >> his mental state during this process, in terms of when he is competent to even go through this process now, and his

mental state at the time that he committed these acts and not just at the time he committed these acts but the time leading up to the commission of the acts. >> reporter: this weekend in indianapolis, that's consider's regan smith drove a car pained to honor the 12 victims who died in the shooting. the man accused of plotting a shooting at his office is undergoing an emergency psychiatric evaluation. this will be going on for at least a week. on friday police arrested neil prescott, he was in the process of being fired from his job. he told a supervisor he was going to quote blow everybody up. prescott has not yet been charged. a jewelry store owner is dead and police are trying to find his killer. he was gunned down during a robbery friday in arlington at capital jewelers. delia has some of the family's

reaction and it is just gut-wrenching to hear delia. >> reporter: it is, so many people find it ca that thetic to speak out about their loved ones and to make a plea. in this case make a plea to the community, to take a close look at a surveillance picture of the suspect that we'll show you a little later on to see if we can catch this killer who took this father away from this wonderful family and took a family friend in a community member -- and a community member away from the community. they have placed flowers in memory of the man. family members tell us tommy wong worked late friday night, usually home though by 10:00 306789 but when he did not return home by midnight, family members called police and rushed to the store here.

investigators will not release details but they do tell us wong was a victim of an armed robbery around 4:00, friday afternoon. customers we spoke to describe a security system, pretty elaborate that he had in place and hoped to prevent such a tragedy. >> for insurance reasons you got in the door and then once you got that door closed, he would buzz you in on the other side. i don't know what to make of it. it is stupid. it is another loss of a good person. >> that is all you can say about it. another loss of a good person. >> reporter: ssenseless act. this is the person i was telling you about. these are surveillance pictures of the suspect. police say these were taken just as he was walking into the store minutes before the murder. he is described as a black man

in his 50s with a medium build. he is wearing a neon yellow traffic vest and that could have been the reason why family members believe wong buzzed this gentleman inside of his store, thinking perhaps he was some kind of contractor or worker here in the area. anyone with information is urged to call arlington county police immediately. coming up at 6:30, we are going to have an emotional interview with his daughter who spoke to us about this tragic event. prince george's county police, an officer shot over the weekend is now back home. officer rachael jacobs was hit in the leg friday night. she was working security at the galaxy nightclub and trying to break up a fight at the time. since then police have arrested 32-year-old kelly gill list, he is facing three counts of

attempted murder. police have arrested two others as well. it is going to cost montgomery county $12 million to replace more than 60 ride on buses that were taken off the streets lately. ike leggett pulled the buses after a fire in one of them two weeks ago. this was the latest in a series of fires on these types of buses. the county is going to buy 28 new buses to replace them. after weeks of dropping, gas prices are starting to move back up again. according to aaa's fuel gauge report, regular grade gas in our region now averages $3.51, a jump of 17 cents from just a month ago. nationwide the average is $3.49. if approved, bills go up in

route 50 looking great no problems as you head into the northeast corner and the beltway in prince george's county looks good as well. you will be just fine in fact we'll take a live look outside this is new york avenue. no real delays as you head inbound toward the district. i'll be back in a few minutes with more traffic. right now i have a commuter alert and this is good news for drivers who travel through town. later this morning a new ramp will open along southbound 295. that means no more cutting through town or making u turns. that's been a big pain for people this has been the missing link for people heading through maryland into downtown. this new link will be part of the 11ing street bridge. a ramp connecting eastbound 25 should be open later this fall. these bridges were originally built in the 19 60s.

ultimately be a nail in a saddam's coffin. >> he is visiting israel and jordan this week. four homes damaged by fire. the fire began just after 11:00 last night in montgomery village near lake forest mall. you can see flames pouring out of one of the townhomes. it spreads to three other units. massive flames, fortunately no one was hurt but about 20 people are out of their homes this morning. dc police are looking for the gunmen who shot two women along u street. they were both hit, one was grazed on the neck and ear, the other was shot in the chin. both will survive. councilman jim graham doesn't know if the women were targeted or hit by stray bullets.

>> they are unrelated females, not together, weren't friends, they didn't know each other. it looks as though the target was somewhere else and this was pretty random. one week ago two other women were shot. boeing were hit in their legs. they were hit in the cross fire of a fight of two groups of men. arlington county went two years without a murder. now it has had two in a week the most recent violence took the life of a jewelry store owner. he was shot and killed friday during what appears to be a robbery at his store. called capital jewelers. delia has reaction from family there this morning. so sad. >> reporter: it is. when you hear this little girl, his daughter, her tearful plea and memories of her father, your harry potter just breaks for this young family, who really, their lives have been turned

upside down. but the community members here are shaken as well. we are still saga people this morning placing flowers before they head to work. you can see a collection of flowers are out here now for the hardworking business owner. 52-year-old tommy wong is survived by his wife, a son and daughter. his daughter tells us she last speak to her dad around 1:00 friday afternoon. he said everything was okay but police tell us three hours later, around 4:00, a man, an armed robber entered the store and took mr. wong's life. >> i just want to know why he didn't take what he needed and leave me alone. he could have just staken what he needed. he didn't have to take his life too. he was hardworking. he worked hard for his family.

he was a better dad than i could ever ask for. that is all i can say. >> reporter: just heartbreaking. take a close look at these pictures. the suspect was caught on surveillance camera as he was entering the store. police are hoping you can help them identify this man and bring him to justice. police describe him as a black man in his 50s, he was wearing a neon yellow traffic vest at the time. we are told mr. wong had several safety measures in place at the store because a previous owner had been robbed at this location. you physically had to be buzzed into the store to gain access into the shop. family members believe because the suspect had a yellow traffic vest on, perhaps their father thought this man was a worker in the area or a consider tore in the area and that is why he may

have let his guard down and allowed this man into the shop. around 4:00 on friday afternoon mr. wong was killed. if you have any information about what happened here, and about the suspect that you just saw, please call arlington county police right away. mike? looks like quick work by prince georges county police making two alefts. 16-year-old andre ad away and 17-year-old james murray are in custody now. they have admitted to being involved in the murder of 54-year-old david crop and i. -- crop ski. today is national cheesecake day. learn where you can get a slice for half-price or by two for the price of one.

a pleasant 75 degrees. welcome back. monika here with timesaver traffic. generally speaking an easy monday morning. we are in the height of our summer traffic pattern and that is a good indication of why you are dealing with easy traffic on 395 up to the 14th street bridge and into the downtown area. if you are planning to head over on the inbound side of the 14th street bridge a nice look here into downtown. no problems the length of 395 right now. we'll go back over to our maps and this time over to the other side of town. 270 southbound. you have a few brake lights, about 31 miles per hour here at route 109 and beyond 121. i have been looking at the cameras and no delays down to rockville and the point where the lanes divide. you have sunshine in your eyes

across these areas. the baltimore beltway here, this thing is slowly drifting to the west. it popped up over the bay where water temperatures are up in the 80s this morning. down in the northern neck of virginia we are seeing a shower that also popped in the bay. this one is weakening but reidville a shower south of you slowly working its way onshore. temperatures are running in the 70s. in fact upper 70s along the bay. mid-70s in town. when you get inland, things cool off a little bit more. lower 60s with patchy fog in a few areas, winchester currently 61. we are in tyson's corners this morning. traffic looks like it is moving all right. temperature 75, mostly sunny at national airport with as an east-northeast wind at 5 miles per hour. 84% big picture nothing coming toward us the big boundary off to the south.
